Come adventure with us! We combine stewardship, trail etiquette, safety, and STEAM activities to teach students about the Sonoran Desert. Students will build confidence in their ability to safely explore desert trails, understand their physical limits, increase independence, and develop critical thinking skills. This is a drop-off program led by Kerri Ringel, a McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Steward and co-founder of 4 Peaks Kids. About Kerri: Kerri received her Master's degree in Early Children Education from National Louis University and has taught STEAM-centric curriculum in her classroom for the last 20 years. Kerri is Leave No Trace, CPR/AED, Wilderness First Aid (NOLS) certified, and a McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Steward. More at 4peakskids.com. What to Expect: • No previous hiking experience required. • Small groups - guide to student ratio 1:6 • Ms Kerri & her assistant guide will meet families at a covered ramada at Lost Dog Wash Trailhead. Once signed in, students make their own healthy snacks. • Through STEAM activities, students learn about the fascinating environment they are about to explore and how to take responsibility for personal safety. • The group will take a moderately paced 1.5 mile hike, with guided observation of nature & trail etiquette. • Following the hike, students will reflect on their observations through STEAM activities in the shaded ramada. • Parents pick-up students at the same location as drop-off. “Ms.Kerri embodies a love of learning and teaching! She recognizes each student’s personality and engages their interest through creative outdoor activities. My daughters felt very safe and empowered to build their own skill and independence on the trail.” - Megan G., homeschool mom Documentation will be provided for ESA reimbursement.
